Today we were lucky enough to be invited for lunch with a local Italian family in Belluno. Their flat was at the top of a 17th Century building in the centre of the small town with sublime views across the Dolomites. Our hostess, Cristina, a vegetarian, cooked a thick Polenta in a copper pan, together with bean soup, salad with pomegranate, avocado and apple, and gnocchi in pumpkin sauce followed by apple cake. We drank the local Prosecco and digestif and were full of bonhomie toward the world.
The Italians are very hospitable and couldn’t do enough for us. They even arranged a tour of a local cantina afterwards where we sampled the best Prosecco. Thank you Cristina, Renato and Olivia.
