It was great to visit the magnificent mosaics of Ravenna seen in Basilica di S. Vitali and the Mausoleo di Galla Placidia.
It’s hard to believe these were created 1,000 years ahead of the Renaissance. They look as good as new and much of the decorative patterns wouldn’t be out of place in a contemporary setting.
We also went to see Dante’s grave. The Church of S. Francesco there had a flooded crypt filled with goldfish, which can be lit up with the touch of a button and one Euro. Quite unique!
