In Urbino we visited the magnificent Palazzo Ducale built in the 15th century by the Duca Federico da Montefeltro. It’s a wonderful collection of art and we were fortunate to see Titian’s “Venus of Urbino” – which is usually in the Uffizi in Florence.
Some call it a romantic wedding picture others call it an early image of a woman as a sex object. Take your pick. Either way, it is a beautiful painting.
Unfortunately, the painting recommended to us by our friends Sarah and Hans, “La Muta” by Raphael was on loan to a gallery in Russia. But at least we could visit the house where Raphael was born and saw one of his first murals, painted in his youth.
