We visited one of the largest cave systems in Europe at the Grotte de Frasassi.
We’ve seen some great caves before in Slovenia, France and Slovakia but these, discovered only in 1971 are spectacular. The first cave you emerge into is so large it could hold Milan Cathedral. The shapes of the stalagmites aren’t just straight up and down but have grown into amazing multi-coloured mushroom and plant shapes brilliantly set-off by creative lighting.
You aren’t supposed to take photos and the Italians in our group were very obedient. However, your intrepid bloggers felt the need to record this beauty for posterity, so please find furtively taken shots above.
