Hilltop towns of Umbria

We’ve spent the last couple of days exploring some of the smaller towns around Perugia and Assisi.

Lovely rooftops. Exquisite gateways. Historic drinking fountains. And at every turn a sumptuous view across the valley.

Todi has its impressive Piazza del Popolo and Duomo with a luminous rose window. Bettona is picture perfect inside its medieval walls. And Spello has quaint alleyways with pink limestone and flower baskets.

November is a good time to visit Umbria, because the weather is still sunny and we have the place to ourselves. It’s a perfect temperature for walking up hills, average 14 degrees during the day.
