A day when you walked holding a bottle of water. A day when you hunted out the nearest bit of shade. A day when smog descended over Santiago.
And rather than queue for the funicular, we decided to walk to the top of Cerro San Cristobal in the main Santiago park. At the top is a 22 metre statue of the Virgin Mary but the main attraction is the view; this is what the world’s 36th largest city looks like.
But for us it was time to make our way south. Leaving at 9.15pm, a bus would take us through the night to the Lakes District region – hopefully a bit cooler.
