Six hours walking in the rain

Our overnight bus took us to Pucon in the Chilean Lakes District. We stayed two nights but only very briefly glimpsed Volcan Villarrica the active volcano that dominates the town.

With such poor weather we spent the day treking up the 10km Los Lagos trail in the Parque Nacional Huerquehue. In fact the mists and rain added to the mood of adventure.

It was great to walk amongst the Araucaria (monkey puzzle trees) which are only indigenous here and in Argentina, south Brazil, New Guinea, some Pacific islands and Australia.  And through the day we said Hola to Germans, Swiss, Brazilians, Colombians, Canadians as well as Chileans. Not a Brit in sight.
