Into Paraguay

We are genuinely excited to cross the border into Paraguay – it’s a country well off the tourist itineraries and the backpacker trails but one that should offer the authentic South American experience.

Our interest in the country was first catalysed by a performance and talk at the Wilderness Festival in July 2015 by the guitarist Richard Durrant. His playing of the work of Agustin Barrios Mangore – the Paraguayan composer – was so compelling and haunting we imagined ourselves one day getting on the bus to Paraguay just as the young Richard got the bus to his guitar lessons.

We are now settled into a lovely AirBnB to the east of Downtown Asunción.

With Paraguay added to our list of countries visited, Hilary’s been to 57 with Roger trailing at 52.
